FAQs
Q: If I’m signing up as an individual, will I be competing as an individual for stage 2?
A: If you’re signed up as an individual in stage 1 and are successful in entering stage 2, we will randomly assign you to a team. We will send you (and the team you are being assigned to) an email informing you of this. From there, you will be able to contact your new team via email and get to know each other through Facebook, Whatsapp etc.
Q: If I’m registered under two teams/submissions, what happens if both the submissions i’m a part of are chosen to compete in stage 2?
A: If both the teams you are signed up with have been chosen to compete in stage 2, we will email you informing you that you will need to choose one team to compete with. You will not be able to compete as a part of both teams. You will need to make your selection and inform us within 2 days of us sending you the email. Failing to respond within 2 days will mean that we will randomly choose which team you will be a part of.
Q: Are there any rules for the video submission that competitors need to be aware of?
A: There are no particular rules for the video, the video simply needs to address the challenge brief in an interesting, original and well thought out way.
Stage 1 entries will be judged based on the following criteria:
- How creative and innovative the idea is
- How novel the idea is
- How relevant the idea is to sustainable development
- How achievable the idea is
- Clarity of expression
So do keep these in mind when you are drafting up your stage 1 submissions! These marking points also apply to the essay submission.
Q: How should we prepare for stage 2 if my team is invited to it?
A: Not much preparation can be done prior to stage 2 considering that the actual case-study will be unknown to you until the day of the competition, other than the overall themes: climate action, clean energy, water & sanitation. It may be helpful to read around these areas, particularly how each of these key areas are being dealt with in Malaysia. Furthermore, the focus groups with the field experts from EWBM, Ecoknights and the PhD students from Imperial College will take place before the idea developing session. You will be able to ask them questions during this discussion to help you brainstorm ideas for your particular case study
